But first - PREVIEWS!

9 looks good and really interesting and weird and steampunky and, well, cool. So I'll definitely be seeing that.

Where the Wild Things Are - if they pull this off, and the previews are giving me SO MUCH HOPE, this may be the best movie ever. Yes, it's a ten page kid's book, but said ten page kid's book is a beautiful escapist fantasy in which a boy finds out that the monsters aren't so bad after all, and becomes their king. The movie looks like it's focusing on/expanding his time as king and doing general childlike things and having fun, which will just be gorgeous. If they screw this up, I will be saaaaaad.

Sherlock Holmes - Holmes steals Watson's clothing!!!!!!!!!!!! (that sound you just heard was a really, really loud squee.) I hear rumors there may be Holmes/some woman. I will gleefully ignore that and slash the hell out of Holmes/Watson (I won't bash whoever-she-is, I'm sure she's lovely, but OTP.) Also, there is Holmes/Watson eyesex in the preview.

So, on to the movie. In this movie, Harry does stuff and Snape kills Trinity with Rosebud.

So, first off, I didn't find much shippy goodness in this. More like shippy creepyness. For some reason, I kept seeing Dumbledore/Harry and Snape/Malfoy, and I'm sorry, but do not want. Just do not want. The setting-up of H/G and R/Hr was fine, but the whole snogging and romancing and whatnot took up a lot of the book. Srsly, we did not need to know how much random love triangulation happened in here. Also, I actually like Remus/Tonks, but don't see it as an alternative to Sirius/Remus - I ship both, I ship Sirius/Remus/Tonks, I ship them in timelines in which one or the other happens. I can't get too worked up over it.

Luna/Neville is one of my favorite pairings, as is Luna/Harry. Seriously, it needed to happen, if only for a little bit.

There was an owl somewhere that reminded me of the Doyle Owl, and that made me happy. If the ACTUAL Doyle Owl showed up in one of them, it would be an incredible way to display said Owl. But that's so not happening.

There were a lot of people on drugs here. Stoned!Ron and luck-potion!Harry both cracked me up. Particularly the latter. He was acting so...schmoozy. I dunno.

Neville as a waiter at the Slug Club Christmas party was well-done, as it aroused a very strong feeling of D: NO WRONG DO NOT WANT EW YOU HORRIBLE ELITIST TWAT I HATE YOU. Slughorn: Now one of my least favorite characters ever, although he wasn't quite so scary or whatnot as Umbridge, who made me stop the movie to go cry/worry that that kind of witch could exist.

My dad pointed this out when we read the book, but it's kinda weird that Harry never makes up spells. He's like this omg great wizard, why isn't it even mentioned that he could develop spells or modify them the way Snape/the Half-Blood Prince did? And, if he's not an omg great wizard, what about Hermione? Why isn't spell-creation even discussed among the three of them, if only as an aside?

Finally, young Tom Riddle was probably the best thing about this movie. He was creepy. He was good. He was strangely compelling. I could believe that he was an evil manipulator who got his way anyways. I could see women, men, and teachers falling at his feet thanks to his charm and aura of brilliance. He's smart. He knows he's smart. He was the type of person I'd be creeped out by, but still spend time with/defer to anyways, and not be able to describe why he creeped me out. I had an interesting thought on the bus, too. What if he'd been sorted into Griffindor? I mean, it's kinda the Lawful Good house, while Slytherin is at best Chaotic Neutral. How would the story be different if Voldemort didn't just come out of a good school, not a typical breeding ground for Dark wizards, but a good house? Or did Slytherin only get its rep for darkness post-Voldemort?

Overall, I felt the movie was long and kinda meh. I don't know if that was the movie, or just the fact that I've been saturated in Harry Potter. I wouldn't see it again, but I don't want my ten bucks back.

Also, why no movie wank yet? I've been waiting and waiting and HP fandom hasn't delivered anything epic!
